A day after severe weather lashed parts of Tamil Nadu, the state is expected to witness heavy rains and heavy rainfall on Tuesday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). .

Kanyakumari, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli and Tenkasi districts are expected to experience heavy rain for the second day in a row on Tuesday. On Monday, Thoothukudi recorded 95 cm of rain, while Tirunelveli district recorded 135 per cent more than its normal rainfall since October.

The Bureau of Meteorology has also issued an impact warning in the southern states, where flooding, road closures and minor property damage are expected to continue on Tuesday. Efforts are on to rescue around 800 stranded travelers in Srivaikuntam in southern Tamil Nadu, officials told news agency PTI.
Elsewhere, the military helped evacuate people from flood-affected areas. Although the rains have almost stopped in many parts of southern Tamil Nadu, floods are still heavy, which continue to hamper normalcy.

Apart from that, a cyclone and heavy rain warning has also been issued for parts of Kerala on Tuesday. Capital city Thiruvananthapuram is expected to witness more thundershowers, while other parts of the state are expected to witness heavy rain. Warning has been issued to fishermen due to high sea due to severe weather conditions for Lakshadweep.

The weather has worsened since the northeast monsoon started in the region last weekend, prompting the authorities to issue an alert and carry out relief operations in the affected areas. An IMD official said the severe weather conditions in Tamil Nadu and parts of Kerala will ease from Wednesday (December 19). Monday, keeping in mind the cyclonic circulation over the Comoros region and the heavy cloud cover over southern Kerala. in Tamil Nadu, as shown in the satellite images, a red alert (warning) has been issued in the southern part of Tamil Nadu.
