Sonia Gandhi said she welcomes the government’s decision to award Bharat Ratna to PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and MS Swaminathan.
When asked to comment on the Bharat Ratna award to former prime minister Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and scientist MS Swaminathan, former Congress president Sonia Gandhi said, “I accept them. Why not?” PM Modi announced these announcements on his X account through three separate messages commemorating the donation of the three pillars. Reactions started pouring in as the new additions to the list were Lal Krishna Advani and Karpoori Thakur – a total of five people were awarded the Bharat Ratna this year.
“It is good for our government that the former Prime Minister of the country Chaudhary Charan Singh has been awarded the Bharat Ratna. This honor is dedicated to his immeasurable contribution to the nation…,” PM Modi wrote while announcing the Bharat Ratna to Charan Singh. On Narasimha Rao, Prime Minister Modi wrote: “The era of Narasimha Rao Garu is marked as The Prime Minister has taken important steps to open India to the global market, ushering in a new era of economic development.”
“It is a matter of great joy that the Government of India is awarding Dr MS Swaminathan Ji Bharat Ratna, in recognition of his great contribution to our country in agriculture and the welfare of farmers. He played an important role in helping India achieve self-reliance of farmers in times of hardship and made significant efforts to promote Indian agriculture,” PM Modi wrote in MS Swaminathan.
General Secretary of Congress Jairam Ramesh said that every Indian respects the contribution of PV Narasimha Rao, Chaudhary Charan Singh and MS Swaminathan – they are, if it will be jewels (ratna) of India. But the Modi government was silent on giving MSPs legal status based on the Swaminathan process. Due to the stubbornness of PM Modi, 700 farmers died for their faith during their journey. Even today, farmers are ready to march to Delhi,” wrote Jairam Ramesh.
