Kamal Haasan will announce the alliance before the upcoming elections

Kamal Haasan spoke about preparations for the parliamentary elections and expressed optimism about the “good opportunity” given to him. Actor-turned-politician Kamal Haasan on Monday said that the alliance announcement will be made in the next two days. While interacting with reporters at the Chennai airport, Makkal director Needhi Maiam discussed preparations for the upcoming elections and expressed optimism for “a fair chance.” In two days, I will meet you with good news. The work for the parliamentary elections is going well and we are looking forward to a good opportunity. As far as the alliance is concerned, the decision will be announced in two days,” Kamal Haasan said. Last week, Haasan’s team was given the “battery channel” symbol. Earlier in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Hassan’s party also contested under the ‘Battery Torch’ banner. In September last year, DMK chief and Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin suggested his party tie up with Haasan’s MNM ahead of the assembly elections.

“The party leaders will decide the alliance (with Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam Party) during the elections,” Stalin Udhayanidhi said. Haasan formed the MNM in 2018. However, the party was defeated in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2021 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu. Later, he extended his support to the ruling DMK going forward in the Erode by-election. Haasan was also seen alongside Congress legislator Rahul Gandhi in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra when he reached Tamil Nadu in early December 2022. Speaking about his participation in the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi Hassan said, “…If I was interested in politics in the 1970s and there was an emergency, I would have gone to the streets of Delhi . Please don’t misunderstand (my association with Bharat Jodo Yatra) that my party is dependent; it is for united India,” Haasan said.
