The Madras High Court has declared that the current ban on OPS to use two-way stamps, flags and letters will continue.
Last year, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi Palaniswami had filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking a ban on the use of OPS’s two documents. A judge who heard the case banned OPS permanently. For this, O. Panneer Selvam filed an appeal in the Madras High Court. In this matter, Justices R. Subramanian and R. Sakthivel were heard during the session. The OPS argued that the Election Commission had given two marks to Madhusudhana, who was then its chief.
OPS should also not be prevented from approaching the Election Commission to demand double marks. A side request was made. After hearing these arguments, the judges ordered that no interim action could be taken regarding the ban on OPS using the name, flag, logo and letterhead of the AIADMK. The judges ordered that there should be no ban on going to the Electoral Commission and that the case would be tried. heard again after the election. The court also ordered that the matter be adjourned to June 10 for final hearing.
